Al-Muzzammil 73:20

“Indeed, your Lord knows, [O Muḥammad], that you stand [in prayer] almost two thirds of the night or half of it or a third of it, and [so do] a group of those with you. And Allāh determines [the extent of] the night and the day. He has known that you [Muslims] will not be able to do it1 and has turned to you in forgiveness, so recite what is easy [for you] of the Qur’ān. He has known that there will be among you those who are ill and others traveling throughout the land seeking [something] of the bounty of Allāh and others fighting for the cause of Allāh. So recite what is easy from it and establish prayer and give zakāh and loan Allāh a goodly loan.2 And whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allāh. It is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.”

Al-An'am 6:164

“Say, "Is it other than Allāh I should desire as a lord while He is the Lord of all things? And every soul earns not [blame] except against itself, and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ."”

Gladness has its own verses. When the day is light, these seventeen hold it up to something lasting — Ad-Duhaa 93:5, “and your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied,” and 93:7, “and He found you lost and guided you,” a reminder that the good you feel was given. An-Nahl 16:97 and Al-Baqarah 2:82 tie a good life, and the companionship of Paradise, to faith carried into action. Read one when things are well, and let the feeling turn toward its source rather than away from it.

The Quran on happiness: common questions

What does the Quran say about happiness?
It frames happiness as something received and best returned in gratitude — the promise of Ad-Duhaa 93:5, the “good life” of An-Nahl 16:97, and the reward “and extra” of Yunus 10:26. Seventeen verses on gladness and its source are gathered here.
Which verse should I read on a good day?
Ad-Duhaa 93 is a common choice — short, and about a turn from hardship to ease. Verses from An-Nahl and Al-Baqarah on this page connect present good to lasting good.
Is seeking happiness allowed in Islam?
Yes. The Quran repeatedly speaks of a good life in this world for those who do right (An-Nahl 16:97), alongside the greater reward to come. What it cautions against is making the fleeting the whole aim (Al-A‘la 87:16–17, under loneliness on this site).
How were these verses picked?
By hand, for verses whose tone matches a glad moment and points it back toward gratitude, rather than by search. Some also appear under gratitude and, occasionally, sadness.
