Gratitude in the Quran is less a mood than a practice, and these fifteen verses describe what it does. Ibrahim 14:7 is the promise at the centre: “if you are grateful, I will surely increase you.” Ibrahim 14:34 sets its scale — “if you should count the favour of God, you could not enumerate it.” Ar-Ra‘d 13:28 places the settled heart “in the remembrance of God.” Together they move thankfulness from a feeling you wait for to something you can begin now.

The Quran on gratitude: common questions

What does the Quran say about being thankful?
It ties gratitude to increase — “if you are grateful, I will surely increase you” (Ibrahim 14:7) — and to a scale beyond counting (Ibrahim 14:34), while locating a calm heart in remembrance (Ar-Ra‘d 13:28). Fifteen verses on the theme are collected here.
What is shukr in Islam?
Shukr is gratitude expressed with the tongue, the heart, and action — acknowledging a blessing, attributing it to God, and using it as He would be pleased. Ibn Kathir’s tafsir on the verses here draws out that threefold sense.
Which surah is about gratitude?
Surah Ibrahim (14) returns to the theme repeatedly, and verses from An-Nahl, Ar-Ra‘d, and Al-An‘am on this page do too. There is no single “surah of gratitude,” but these are the passages readers gather.
Can I read these without an account?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no cost anywhere on Read Me When; each verse opens in full, on the web, in your browser.
