When the mind races ahead of the moment, these fourteen verses return it to what is certain. Several speak directly to worry about provision and outcome — At-Talaq 65:3, that God “will provide for him from where he does not expect,” and Al-Ahzab 33:3, “and rely upon God; sufficient is God as Disposer of affairs.” Others meet the fear underneath the worry: Al-Anbya 21:35 and Ali ‘Imran 3:185, “every soul will taste death,” set the anxious hour against a longer horizon.

The Quran on anxiety: common questions

What does the Quran say about anxiety?
The Quran tends to answer anxious feeling by moving trust off the outcome and onto God — that provision arrives from unexpected places (At-Talaq 65:3), that no soul is burdened past its capacity (Al-Baqarah 2:286), and that help is sought through patience and prayer (Al-Baqarah 2:153). This page collects fourteen such verses in full.
Which surah should I read when I feel anxious?
There is no single prescribed surah. Readers often return to Al-Baqarah 2:153 and 2:286, At-Talaq 65:3, and Ad-Duhaa. Ibn Kathir’s commentary on each is included here so you can sit with the meaning rather than only the words.
Is there a dua for anxiety in the Quran?
Some verses are themselves close to supplication — Taha 20:25–26, “My Lord, expand for me my breast and ease for me my task,” is the best known. The Prophet ﷺ also taught specific prayers for worry and grief that are recorded in hadith rather than the Quran itself.
How were these fourteen verses chosen?
They are a hand-picked set, not a search result — verses whose wording or occasion speaks to an anxious state, chosen for resonance rather than completeness. A few also appear under other feelings, such as sadness or loneliness.
