Anger gets a measured reply in the Quran, and these fifteen verses model it. Al-Mu’minun 23:96 gives the instruction plainly: “repel, by means of what is best, evil.” Al-Muzzammil 73:10, “and be patient over what they say, and avoid them with a gracious avoidance.” Ar-Ra‘d 13:24 is the greeting of the angels to those who held steady: “peace be upon you for what you patiently endured.” Ali ‘Imran 3:135 turns even a wrong done in anger back toward remembrance and repair.

The Quran on anger: common questions

What does the Quran say about anger?
It treats anger as something to govern rather than obey — met with patience (Al-Muzzammil 73:10), with a better response than the offence (Al-Mu’minun 23:96), and with turning back to God when anger leads to a wrong (Ali ‘Imran 3:135). These fifteen verses gather that counsel in one place.
Which verse should I read when I am angry?
Al-Mu’minun 23:96 and Ar-Ra‘d 13:24 are common choices on this page. The well-known instruction to “restrain anger and pardon people” is Ali ‘Imran 3:134, just before a verse included here.
How does Islam teach you to control anger?
The Quranic verses here emphasise patience and a gracious response; the Sunnah adds practical steps — seeking refuge in God from Shaytan, changing posture, staying silent, performing wudu — recorded in hadith rather than the Quran.
How were these verses selected?
By hand, for how their wording or occasion meets an angry moment — restraint, endurance under provocation, and repair — rather than by keyword. A few also sit under patience-adjacent feelings such as sadness.
